I Looked at you with a tear.
You looked at me with a twinkle.
I said: I’ll miss you.
You waged your tail oh so softly and said: Thank you for your
love.
I said: I can’t do this to you.
And I could hear you say: I love you.
I said: It hurts too much.
And you said: You have been my friend and protector, and
because you love me, do this for me and set me free from my pain.
I said: Life will be hard with out you.
And you lifted your little head and looked at me as if to
say: Do not despair, I will always be with you, in your heart and in your soul
and everywhere.
I said: I love you.
And you said: Don’t look at me with a tear, look at me with a
twinkle like I look at you - for we had a good life, you and I, best of friends
walking side by side . They say that I was your companion - but NO -you are MY
companion and I love you more then you will know for doing what you must do for
me. My only regret is that I can’t sit in your lap or wag my tail to comfort you
- but remember always I’ll be with you, in your heart and in your soul and walk
by your side for evermore.
And we said: Goodbye my friend, I love you and I‘ll
miss you.
And with that she closed her eyes and was gone, released from
her pain for ever more, resting peacefully now, this friend of mine.
I looked in the mirror to wipe the tear from my eye and what
I saw was not a cry but Diamond’s twinkle in my eye.
